Tirunallurpperumanam Temple




Tirunallurpperumanam Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is located in Chidambaram, on the Chidambaram - Mayiladuthurai railroad. It was the seat of Anglo-French wars. In 1744, the British took possession of this temple by defeating Thanjavur armies, and later it was occupied by the French.

Several legends are associated with this temple. It is believed that Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma worshipped Lord Shiva here. The temple is also regarded as the marriage venue of Thiru Gnanasambandar, and it is believed that Goddess Parvati blessed the guests at the wedding. An annual festival is held here to commemorate this event.

The temple has two prakarams, and a Rajagopuram can be seen at the entrance. The outer prakaram consists of a 100 pillared hall and it houses an image of Thiru Gnanasambandar. Theerthams and artistic stonework add to the beauty of the temple.

The temple is 6 km east of Kollidam Railway Station.
