Tirumakudal Narsipur is a
taluk headquarters in
Mysore District of
Karnataka. It is around 30 km south-east of
Mysore, the district headquarters.
Located on the banks of Cauvery River, this small town is a pilgrim center. River Kapila and Sphatika Sarovara, an under ground lake, merge with Cauvery here. The first half of the name refers to the meeting place of the rivers and the lake, and the second half is derived from the famous Gunja Narasimha temple located here.
Ancient temple of Parvathi, Vyasaraya Mutt, Brahmashwastha temples and smaller temples of Agastheswara, Sthaneshwara, Someshwara, Kamakshi, Ganapathi and Bhiksheshwara are the other attractions. Gunja Narasimha temple and Agastheshwara temple celebrate car festival annually.
Somnathpur, famous for a Shiva temple, is 7 km north and Talakadu is about 14 km from here.
Nearest airport is Bangalore International Airport. Mysore Junction Railway Station and Nanjangud Town Railway Station are the nearest railheads. National Highway 212 passes through the area.
