Tirucherai Temple

Udaiyar Koil

Tirucherai Temple, one of the 108 Divya Desams, is located in Tirucherai, 4 km north of Kodavasal and 15 km south of Kumbakonam, in Thanjavur District. The Moolavar (main deity) here is Saranathan, installed in a standing posture facing east.

The temple also houses shrines of Yoga Narasimhar, Goddess Lakshmi, Tiruvenkatamudaiyaan and the Alwars. The shrines of Kaveriamman and Anjaneya (Lord Hanuman) are located near the temple tank.

The temple has a 90-feet high Rajagopuram. It is believed that the temple was built with a part of the granite meant for building the Rajagopala temple at Mannargudi. Therefore, the temple has shrines of Rajagopala with his consorts Rukmini and Styabhama.

The grand chariot festival held here on Thaipusam is a major draw.
