Thunchan Parambu is located in
Tirur of
Malappuram District. It is the native land of the father of modern Malayalam poetry,
Thunchath Ezhuthachan. It is said that he used to pray under a Kanjiram tree (Nux vomica tree) here. Thunchan modified the Malayalam alphabet and wrote the famous ‘Harinamakeerthanam’ at this place.
The land comprises a memorial, featuring a meeting hall and library, dedicated to the great poet. Efforts are on to convert it into an important research center and literary meeting place. Vijayadasami is the major festival celebrated here. A big literary event named Thunchan Utsava or Thunchan festival is celebrated during the last week of every December.
Thunchan Parambu is close to the Tirur railway station.
