A place of archaeological eminence, Thrithala is a small town situated on the banks of the
Bharathapuzha, in
Palakkad District of
Kerala. It is about 75 km from
Palakkad.
Renowned for monuments and historic ruins, Thrithala is a sought after destination for tourists, pilgrims and research students. The notable cultural monuments of the town include the ruins of a large mud fort with a deep moat hewn from laterite and the Shiva temple, and Kattil Madom Temple, a Buddhist monument built around the 10th century. The Pakkanar memorial, a tribute to the Pariah saint, is located nearby.
Thrithala is also famous as the native place of the writer and social reformer V T Bhattathiripad.
Pattambi Railway Station is about 19 km from Thrithala. The nearest airport is at Coimbatore, about 55 km from Palakkad.
