Thoubal River

Thoubal River, an important tributary of the Imphal River, originates in the hill ranges of Ukhrul District. On its way, the river traverses through Yairipok and Thoubal before merging with the Imphal at Irong near Mayang Imphal.

Though lean and dry in the summer, it becomes violent and turbulent during the rainy season and causes wide spread damage to paddy fields and property. Thoubal was once a means of transport for valuable merchandise, but the advent of cheap and faster means of road transport has made the people less dependent on the river.
