Thotlakonda lies about 15 km from
Visakhapatnam on the Visakhapatnam-
Bheemili beach road. The excavations at Thotlakonda have unveiled a huge monastic complex, including a mahastupa, apsidal and circular chaitya grihas (prayer halls), votive stupas, rock cut cisterns, a congregation hall, a refractory and pathways. Roman and
Satavahana coins and stucco prices dating back to 3rd century BC have been found here. An archeological site in
Visakhapatnam District, Thotlakonda excavations also revealed certain cultural materials such as pottery, beads, bangle pieces, tiles, stuccos, iron objects, sculptural remains, molded bricks, inscriptions and coins.
