Thiruvanvandoor is a small village in
Alappuzha District of
Kerala. This serene village is a famous Hindu pilgrimage center on the banks of
Manimala and
Pamba rivers. It is believed that Thiruvanvandoor is one of the five holy places, where the image of
Vishnu was worshiped by
Pandavas during their exile.
Thiruvanvandoor is noted for a Vishnu shrine, which is believed to have been consecrated by the legendary Bhrigu Muni. Thiruvanvandoor Boat Race held on or around the holidays of Onam attracts thousands of people from all parts of the state. Sree Ayyappa College at Eramallikkara is an important educational institution here.
Thiruvanvandoor lies on the eastern side of Adoor-Thiruvalla M C Road, between Irappuzha Bridge and Kallissery Junction. Cochin International Airport is the nearest airport.
