Thiruvalluvar Statue is one of the major landmarks of
Kanyakumari, in
Tamil Nadu. Dedicated to the great poet
Thiruvalluvar, the statue is built adjacent to the
Vivekananda Rock Memorial. It is a mammoth structure commanding a total height of 133 ft.
The pedestal of the statue, which is about 38 ft high, represents the 38 chapters in the book of Aram in Thirukural and the 95 ft high statue standing on the pedestal represents he total chapters in Porul (70 chapters) and Inbam (25 Chapters).
Atharapeedam, the 3-tier pedestal, is bounded by an artistic mandapa about 38 ft height - known as the Alankara Mandapam.
Surrounding the Alankara Mandapa stand 10 elephant statues, of which 8 elephants represents the eight different directions and the remaining two, represents earth and space. One can worship the holy feet of Thiruvalluvar by climbing 140 steps, constructed inside the Mandapa.
