Thirunarungondai




Thirunarungondai is one of the important sacred Jain centers situated 16 km north-west of Ulundurpet and 21 km east of Tirukoilur, in Viluppuram District of Tamil Nadu. This unpolluted village is blessed with numerous trees, extensive green lands and hillocks.

The hillock at the village contains a Jaina cave and two temples dedicated to Parshwanath and Chanraprabha. The cave was once the monastery of the monks of Virasangha in the 8th - 9th century AD. The temple also features rich collection of bronze images. The annual festival (Jan-Feb) celebrated here amid much pomp and splendor is attended by thousands of Jains from all over Tamil Nadu.
