Thirukkural, written more than 2000 years ago by the Sage Thiruvalluvar, is in the form of couplets and conveys noble thoughts. According to Indian sages there are four major aims in life - aram, porul, inbam and veedu. The fourth aim of life 'veedu' is not mentioned in Thirukkural. Legend says that this is because one can achieve the fourth aim if he/she performs first three aims perfectly.
Thirukkural includes 133 chapters of 10 couplets that are composed in the kural-venba meter. It is divided into three sections such as arattupaal; enumerates the ways to live a morally upright life, porutpaal; tackles the conduct of those involved in administration and socio-political life, and inbatupaal; deals with love.
