. A private sector port, Thiruchopuram is equipped with terminal facility of a Single Buoy Mooring (SBM).
It is located 12 km from the coast and has a depth of around 31 m. This SBM handles large crude carriers. The port has a jetty that can accommodate the tankers up to 40,000 DWT (Deadweight Tons). Crude pipelines are connected from SBM to landfall point and to storage tanker. There is also the facility of seawater intake and return water system.
