Thiru Sempon Sei Kovil Temple

Thiru Sempon Sei Kovil temple is situated at Thirunaangur in Thanjavur District in Tamil Nadu. This is believed to be the only temple for which the money required for construction was paid by its deity. According to legends, Lord Ram made a cow of pure gold and gifted it to a Brahmin. The Brahmin sold the golden cow and with that money constructed this temple. This temple got its name because of the gold gifted by the Lord. The word ‘sem ponn’, in the temple’s name, means pure gold.

This temple is dedicated to Lord Ram. The deity of this temple is known as Lord Pera Aulaalan. The deity is also known by the names Hema Rangar, Damodharan and Sem Pon Arangar. The deity is seen in an upright posture, facing east. An annual procession known as Garuda sevai is held in the town, where all the deities of the temples in the town assemble.
