Theur is a small village by the banks of the Mulamatha, about 25 km south-east of
Pune, in
Pune District. It lies along the National Highway 9, a few kilometers to the north of Loni Kalbhor.
Daund is around 35 km south-east and
Loni Kand is 12 km towards the north.
According to a legend, once Brahma’s mind became restive and in order to calm himself down, he sought the help of Lord Ganesh. Theur is believed to be the place where Brahma could find peace of mind – so the place came to be called ‘sthavar’ region or Theur.
The Chintamani Ganpati temple here is a major pilgrim center, frequented by devotees from all over the state.
Shivaji Fort at Sinhgarh, Khadakwasla Lake, Aga Khan Palace, Lal Mahal, Kelkar Museum, Sarasbaug Garden and Kamla Nehru Park at Pune and Pashan Lake are some other tourist options available for visitors to Theur.
Pune Lohegaon Airport and Pune Junction Railway Station are the nearest access points.
