Thekekudi Cave Temple




Thekekudi Cave Temple is situated at Kaviyoor in Pathanamthitta District and is one of the rare cave temples of Kerala. The temple is structured in Pallava architectural style. From the evidences received, it is found that the temple was constructed in the 8th century. There are many sculptural works seen around the temple and these 'Darusilpas' belong to the 17th century. The deities worshipped, in the shrikovil, which is inside the cave are Ganapathi, Maharshi and Dwarapalaka. Another specialty of the cave temple is the Shivlinga, which is about 3 ft in height.

Njalbhagam Sleeba MarThoma Church, Kaviyoor Mahadev Temple and Kaviyoor Rock Cut Cave Temple are nearby pilgrim centers.

By road, one can easily access the temple from Thiruvalla. The nearest railway station is at Thiruvalla, about 5 km.
