Thanjai Maamanikkoyil

Thanjai Maamanikkoyil is a cluster of three temples, located at Vennatrankarai on the outskirts of Thanjavur, in Tamil Nadu. This group of three temples is considered to be one Divya Desam, sung by Sri Thirumangai Alwar, Sri Bhoodath Alwar and Sri Namm Alwar.

Namm Alwar refers to Manikkunram, while Bhoodath Alwar refers to Thanjai.

The temple dates back to the period of Nayakas of Madurai.

Maamanikkoyil, first of the three temples, enshrines Neelamega Perumal in a sitting posture facing east, and his wife Senkamalavalli. The temple also enshrines the image of Nartana Krishnar and there are shrines dedicated to Lakshmi Narasimhar and Lakshmi Hayagrivar. Manikkunram is the second temple where Manikkunra Perumal is enshrined in a seated posture, facing east along with his consort Ambujavalli. The third shrine is dedicated to Thanjaiyali Nagar, enshrining a seated image of Lord Narasimha whose consort is Thanjai Nayaki.

The Utsavar in all of these temples is known as ‘Narayanan’.
