Tenunnalai

Situated in the Tirumayyam taluk, Tenimalai alternativeately called Tenunnalai, was one of the erstwhile Jain centers in the Pudukkottai region. The sculptural representations and inscriptions of the Teerthankars found in this region indicate that Tenimalai was a Sramana habitat till the ninth century. 'Andar Madam,' meaning 'the monastery of mendicants' is a cavern towards the east where Jain monks used to stay. A boulder nearby the cave features carved relief of 3 Teerthankars in the padmasana posture.
