The Temple Complex of Hatkoti is on the banks of the
river Pabbar, in Jubbal Tehsil which is 105 km east of
Shimla. This complex consists of a main temple dedicated to
Goddess Durga and a small temple for
Shiva, which stands side by side.
The architecture and the design of the main temple was originally in the classical Shikhara or tower style. Some conical stone structures can be seen, which are used to store grains, supposed to have been built by the local people. The Hatkoti temples date back to the Gupta period and must have been built between the 6th and 9th century.
At Hatkoti there are two mountain streams Bishkulti and Raanvti which is grayish in color and joins the river Paddar. The local belief is that this stream oozes poison. Since it is a place where three streams merge, it is a great place for pilgrimage. It can be reached by road either through the Shimla-Theog-Kotkhai-Kharapather-Hatkoti-Rohru motor road or the Dehradun to Hatkoti route.
