Teela Aetham festival is celebrated in
Jammu and Kashmir on the 8th day of the bright fortnight of the Hindu month of Phalgun (February-March). It marks the end of the
Shivaratri festival and the winter season.
On this occasion, a special worship is done at home and a number of oil lamps are lit. These lamps, with the help of grass bases, are then floated in a river. Firepots, called ‘kangris’, filled with grass are lit. These firepots are then rotated in air and hurled onto the river.
