Tea Museum-Munnar




Set up by the Tata Tea Company, Tea Museum-Munnar is situated at Nullatanni Estate, in Munnar. It is the first tea museum in India. The museum houses century old curios, photographs and machineries, which give the history of planting in the high ranges of Munnar. The museum educates tourists on the different steps of tea processing, using different manufacturing techniques.

The memorabilia preserved in the museum include the original tea roller of 1905, the rotorvane and the pelton wheel, which was used in the Power Generation Plant during the 1920s. Cash safe, old-time bungalow furniture, magneto-phone, wooden bathtub and iron oven, antique office equipment like typewriters, telephone systems and iron-age burial urn of the 2nd century are exhibited in the museum. The Tea Museum sports a granite Sundial at the entrance.

Nearest railway stations are at Ernakulam and Kottayam. The nearest airport is Cochin International Airport.
