Tarapur Fort




Tarapur fort is one of the strongest forts in the North Konkan region, positioned on the Tarapur creek, 22 km east of Mahim. It was built by the Portuguese in 1593. The highlight of this fort is the Portugese coat of arms and inscription found engraved on it.

After its construction the Mughals tried to capture the fort. But it was captured by the Maratha sardar Chimaji Appa in 1739.
