Tar Shehnai is a traditional string and bow instrument of India. It is one of the regularly used musical instruments in a Gurdwara (Sikh worshiping place), used for providing an accompaniment to the devotional songs.
The Tar Shehnai contains 4 main strings, which can be tuned with wooden knobs. There are 15 harmonic strings, which are tunable with metal knobs, and another 15 harmonic strings of length 90 cm, which can be tuned with an ebony peg. There is a metal horn fitted on the ebony peg. This horn is used for adjusting the volume and resonance of the instrument. The sound produced by this instrument is similar in quality to the Shehnai, which is a wind instrument.
