Talgunda Pillar is a sturdy monolithic structure of grey granite, standing in front of the ruined Pranavesvara temple at Talagunda village in
Shimoga District,
Karnataka. The pedestal of the pillar is 5 ft and 4 inches high and 1 ft and 4 inches square at the top. The shaft is octagonal in size with each side being 7 inches wide and tapering slightly towards the top. Each of the seven sides bear two lines of writings from bottom to top while the 8th side has only one short line, written in the same manner. The epigraph has 34 verses and is thought to be made during the 6th century.
The inscription was composed and written by Kubja on orders from King Santivarman. It was meant to record the construction of a big tank near the Shiva temple by his father Kakusthavaraman.
Shikaripur is a town near Talagunda and is 60 km from Shimoga.
