Suvari Folk Music

Suvari is a folk music native to Goa. It is a traditional tone setter to all Hindu religious and festival presentations. Specialty of this music is that it mainly concentrates on ‘Laya’ (tune) and ‘Tal’ (beat) rather than words.

Suvari is performed with the accompaniment of ghumat, shamel, cymbals, shehnai and surt. A good Suvari band is considered as the symbol of pride and honor of a village.
