Surya Sasthi - festival dedicated to
Surya - is celebrated in
Uttar Pradesh on the sixth day (sasthi) of the new moon of Kartik (a month in the
North Indian Hindu Calendar). It is also known as Dala Chhat. It is observed on the banks of a river. Mothers observe fast on this day for the well being of their children, pray to the Sun God in the morning and evening and at night float burning lamps on rivers.
