Built in AD 7th century, Surayanarayana Sun Temple - dedicated to
Surya - is located at
Aihole. It has a four-pillared inner sanctum with a 'Rekhanagara' tower. The inner sanctum has an idol of the Sun seated on a chariot drawn by horses and flanked on both sides by his two consorts,
Goddess Ushas and Sandhya. The temple is noted for its intricate carvings.
