Sulthan Bathery




Sulthan Bathery, formerly known as Ganapathivattom, is a small town of Wayanad District, famous as a hill station and health resort. Also known as Sulthan's Battery, the town is 98 km east of Kozhikode. It was a strong hold of Tipu Sultan during the 18th century. The town is situated in a hilly place covered with dense forest and cultivation of various cash crops such as coffee, rubber and tea.

Among the major attractions, the Jain Temple with elaborate stone carvings situated in the fort of Tipu Sultan has an important place. The other nearby places of tourist interest include Edakkal Caves, Ambalavayal Heritage Museum and Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary.

Sulthan Bathery is situated on the Kozhikode-Bangalore Highway. The nearest airport is Calicut Airport and the major railway station is Kannur Railway Station.
