Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary is located about 16 km from
Gurgaon and 46 km from
Delhi, on the Gurgaon -
Farukhnagar Road. A haven to a variety of domestic and migratory birds, this sanctuary surrounds the Sultanpur Lake.
Various bird species such as darters, egrets, geese, teals, kingfishers, lapwings, sandpipers, demoiselle cranes demoiselle cranes, ruddy shelducks, pelicans, flamingoes, bar-headed geese, grey lags, gadwalls, and mallards dominate the region. Local species include plovers, red-wattle lapwings, herons, cormorants, white ibises, spoonbills and painted storks. Other wildlife in the sanctuary includes blackbuck, nilgai, hog deer,
sambar deer, wild dog, caracal, wild cat, hedgehog, mongoose,
striped hyena, Indian porcupine, rattle/
honey badger, leopard, wild pig, and four horned antelope.
Boating facilities are available in the lake.
September to March is the best time to visit. Accommodation is available in the tourist lodge run by the Haryana Tourism Development Corporation.
Indira Gandhi International Airport and Gurgaon Railway Station are the nearest accessible points.
