Sui Mata Festival is an annual festival celebrated by the women of
Chamba in
Himachal pradesh. Chamba is 50 km east of
Dalhousie and 24 km north-east of Khajjiar.
The festival is held in memory of Sui Mata, the daughter of an ancient raja. It is believed that Sui Mata gave her life to save the inhabitants of her father’s kingdom.
The festivities start from the 13th April and lasts for four days. During the festival, the women move in a procession carrying the image of Sui Mata from Rang Mahal to her shrine, the Sui Mata Temple. The women of Chamba accompany the procession by singing and dancing.
