Suchindram Kulam is a major perennial fresh water lake, lying between
Nagercoil and
Kanyakumari. A large variety of aquatic vegetation like water lilies, lotus, floating hearts, pistia and other water plants are present in this lake. At the centre of the lake, there are a few trees and bushes which provide resting place for a number of birds. Birds such as white cattle egrets, black cormorants, darters, purple moorhen, bronze-winged Jacanas, dabchick, grey heron, purple heron, chestnut bittern, open bill stork, cotton teal, whiskered and little tern, black winged stilt, greenshank, little ringed plover and sandpiper are a common sight.
