Stone Bridge at Gulanchwadi




Stone Bridge at Gulanchwadi is a gorgeous natural basalt formation near Narayangaon, Maharashtra. It was discovered by the geologist Dr Lalit Kshirsagar. Commonly natural bridges can be found formed in coastal areas due to wave actions and marine erosions. The only bridge which is known to be created naturally in basaltic rock formation is at Gulanchwadi. According to the discoverer, the bridge was formed as a result of constant erosion caused by the waters of a stream. One can view a water course that flows throughout the year, under the bridge. Lava deposits dating around the Cretaceous era forms a layer of the stone that makes up the bridge.

The best time to visit the place is just after the monsoons. The nearest airport is Pune airport and Talegaon is the closest railway station.
