State Archaeological Gallery is situated in
Kolkata, the capital city of
West Bengal. Established in 1962, the gallery showcases rare tools of the early, middle and the late stone ages from Susunia, now
Bankura, and other sites, proto-historic antiquities from Pandu Rajar Dhibi of
Bardhaman, terracottas, sculptures, stones and stucco from the Gupta, Maurya, Sunga, Kushana, Pala and Mediaeval times.
The Historical Art section, opened in 1963, showcases a large number of old terracottas, bronzes, wood-carvings, textiles and several manuscripts.
Guide services are provided for the visitors. Informative lectures are organized occasionally.
State Archaeological Gallery is open from 12:00 to 16:00 hrs on all days except Sunday and public holidays.
