Starrimo Monastery




Starrimo Monastery is situated on a hill side at Padum in Kargil District, Jammu and Kashmir. Starrimo is a 10th century monastery and is placed near to a tree-covered ridge above the old town.

This monastery is a branch of the Stakna Monastery. Other branches connected with this monastery are in Sani and Bardan.

Nearby is the old village of Pibiting, dominated by its picturesque hilltop monastery, a superb manifestation of stupa architecture.

Starrimo can be accessed from Kargil on the Kargil-Padum road. This path is open from around mid July to early November. Padum is 5 km away from Karsha.
