Located at Pallikkara near Ambalamugal, 20 km from
Kochi, the St Mary's Jacobite Syrian Church is one of the most ancient churches in
Kerala. The inscriptions on the premises mention that the church's inception dates back to the early years of the 10th century. This ancient parish is under the Angamali diocese of the Universal Syriac Orthodox Church. Also known as Marth Mariam Jacobite Syrian Church, it carries five imposing altars with exquisite carvings. There are eight kurishupallis (shrines) under the Pallikkara church, which are at Chanthakurissu, Angadikurissu, Chakalamukal, Chittanadu, Vempilli, Oothikkara, Perunthira and at East Morakkala.
Many churches have branched from this parish. Sunday school is conducted regularly, and there are youth association and women's association. The church takes part in social, cultural and charitable activities.
