Built in 1812 in the Greco-Roman style, St Marks Cathedral is a notable landmark in
Bangalore. This cream-coloured structure was consecrated by the Bishop of Calcutta in 1816. This remarkable specimen of colonial construction was modeled on the 17th century St Paul's Cathedral in London. Ornate ceilings, magnificent domes, intricate woodwork and artistry make it an amazing sight. The figures of roman archers set along the walls make a delightful arrangement.
The bell here is among the best maintained of its kind. The cathedral was enlarged in 1901 and renovated in 1927. The new structure that stands today features extensive glass work.
