Situated in
Kayamkulam, Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama was founded in 1927 by Sri Nirmalanandaji Maharaj, a direct disciple of
Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. It operates an orphanage (Swami Nirmalananda Memorial Bala Bhavan) and a tribal hostel.
The orphanage is a refuge for orphans and destitutes. It meets all the basic requirements of the orphans, such as accommodation, food, clothes and medicines. Besides, there is a computer training center and a publishing unit. Most of the inmates of the orphanage are tribal children from the remote and underdeveloped areas of Kerala.
