Sri Mariamman and Vinayagar Temple

Sri Mariamman and Vinayagar Temple is located at Sulakkal, 32 km from Ukkadam, on the Coimbatore-Pollachi road. There is a story behind the building of temple - the villagers of Sulakkal used to tend their domestic animals to the forest to graze there. Once, one of the villagers noticed that his cow stopped yielding milk. He followed the cow to the forest and found it shedding milk on a sand-dune there. Seeing him, the cow, in a frenzy, hit the sand-dune with its feet. Blood started oozing out from the sand-dune. In the same night a goddess appeared in his dream and asked him to build a temple on the location of the sand-dune.

The main festivals celebrated are Navarathri, Aadipperukku, Tamil New Year, Vaikasi Car Festival, Kaarthigai Deepam, Margazhi Pooja and Aruthira Darisanam.
