Sri Kotteeswarar Temple is located at Kottaiyur, in
Kumbakonam,
Thanjavur District. The temple deity is Sri Kotteeswarar with his consort Goddess Pandhadunayagi. It is believed that the name of the place emerged from a castor seed. The temple has a 60 ft high five-tiered
gopuram at the entrance with two prakarams. It also has the image of Manu needhi
Cholan near the second gopuram. A separate
vimana is there for Somaskandar. The inscriptions of 7th and 12th centuries are also found here.
