Sri Karinjeshwara Temple

Sri Karinjeshwara Temple, also known as Karinja Shiva Parvathi Temple, is a highly revered shrine located at Kavalamudur, about 30 km from Mangalore, in Karnataka. Situated on the top of a rocky hill, the temple can be reached by climbing 260 stone steps. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

Most noteworthy feature is that as the temple bells rings, just after the main puja, A group of Monkeys (Karinja Dadda) gather near a granite platform, where they are offered Mooru Saru Akki Naivedya (about 3 kg of cooked rice). Devotees also offer coconut and bananas for the monkeys.

Gada Theertha and a 10th century Parvati Temple are the major attraction situated nearby.

Mahashivaratri is the major festival celebrated here amid much pomp and splendor.
