Sri Ellamma Pochamma Temple




Sri Ellamma Pochamma Temple is a 15th century shrine, situated at Balkampet, near Hyderabad, in Hyderabad District.

The presiding deity here is Sri Ellamma, whose idol lies 10 ft beneath the ground level. Literally meaning ‘mother to all’, Sri Ellamma is believed to be Renuka Devi, the mother of Lord Parashuram. The goddess is also known by the names Bala Tripura Sundari, Balakamba and Bala.

The idol of Pochamma, acknowledged as the ruler of the sacred land, is consecrated on the southern part of the temple. Devotees can also have the darshan of Akhand Jyothi enshrined in the Garbha Gudi – the inner sanctum.

There is a well within the temple premises, a bath in the water of which is believed to cure one from all kinds of skin diseases and epidemics.
