Swathi Thirunal College of Music, initially named The music Academy, is one of the prestigious and well managed music institutes of South India. It is situated in the heart of
Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of
Kerala.
The academy was founded in 1939 and renamed as Swathi Thirunal College of Music in 1962. The institution offers advanced studies in group kritis, ragamalikas, and ragam-tanam-pallavis.
The college offers ‘Gayaka and Gayika’ (a three-year certificate course in music) and ‘Ganabhooshanam and Ganapraveen’ (a four year diploma course). In 1999, the college was affiliated to the University of Kerala and a unique course, Bachelor in Performing Arts, was started.
