South Sikkim is a small district with a population of 131,506.

Christianity are also widely practiced. Some of the oldest monasteries in
Sikkim are located in the South Sikkim District.
Namchi, a small town and the administrative headquarters of the district, is accessible from the neighboring state of
West Bengal.
The district has a beautiful landscape and it offers excellent treks. Above Damthang, overlooking Namchi and surrounded by lush ancient forest, is the Tendong Hill. It was a place of recluse for Buddhist lamas (monks) who spend years in meditation here. Ravangla is another small town situated on the ridge between the Meanam and Tendong hills. Surrounding villages of Yangang, Tinkitam, Kewzing, Barfung and Akhim are ideal for short stays in the homes of the villagers. Temi Tea Garden is the one and only tea garden in Sikkim, producing top quality tea for the international market. Phur-cha-chu (a hot spring) is of great medicinal value. The district is of religious importance as it houses one of the four holy caves of Sikkim.
