Soorakudi Temple




Soorakudi Temple is an 8th century temple situated at Soorakudi, about 10 km from Karaikudi, in Sivagangai District of Tamil Nadu. The temple enshrines Lord Desikanathar as the presiding deity along with his divine consort Avudayanayaki. The Goddess Amman in this temple has 4 hands and 3 eyes.

Soorakudi Temple is one of the Nagarathar clan temples. The temple has a magnificent five tiered Rajagopuram, ten vimanas and two gopuram.

This temple got its name after the soorai shrub which grows in abundance in this area. The temple is richly decorated with sculptures.
