Someshwara Temple at Shimoga

Someshwara Temple in Sagaddepura stands as a mute testimony to the architectural marvel of the Hoysala age. This temple is devoid of elaborate sculptural decoration found in other Hoysala temples. This small temple with its usual Hoysala architectural scheme of indented squares consisting of a Garbh Griha, sukhanasi, navaranga, and an entrance porch stands facing the east. The main sanctum enshrines the image of Someshwara riding a bull instead of the usual Shivling. The navaranga of the temple houses Saptamatrikas, Umamaheswara, Chamundeswari and Lord Vishnu.

Popularly known as Pura, Sagaddepura is a small village in the Soraba taluk of Shimoga District. Shimoga is well connected by road and rail to major cities of Karnataka and neighboring states.
