Somanathaswami Temple




Somanathaswami Temple is one of the ancient temples located at Kulathur in Chennai District, about 15 km north-east of Tirumullaivayil, on the banks of two large lakes. Believed to be built by a devotee named Sivanesa Selvar, the temple is noted for its architectural excellence. The architectural style of Vijaynagar is reflected in the towers and pillars of the temple. Dedicated to Lord Somanathaswami, the temple houses a very tall flagstaff and two mandapas. Apart from the chief deity, the temple has sub-shrines for Lord Vishnu,, Goddess Amudambikai and Narthana Vinayakar. It is believed that by praying to Vishnu Durga, unmarried women will be blessed with happy married life.

Villivakkam Railway Station is only 5 km from here. Chennai International Airport is the nearest airport.
