Singa is an indigenous wind instrument of
Assam. It forms an essential element of the folk music in this region.
The name ‘Singa’ is derived from the word ‘sing,’ which means ‘horn.’ As the name suggests, this instrument is made of a buffalo horn. Some people living in the hilly region however prefer the horn of an ox instead of buffalo. A small piece of bamboo pipe attached to the horn serves as the mouthpiece of the instrument.
