Sikki is a variety of grass found commonly in
Bihar and
Uttar Pradesh. This grass is used for weaving several articles. Apart from articles of daily use, jewelry is also made out of this grass.
The grass attains a golden color when cut and dried. It is dyed in bright shades. The golden color of the grass adds to the beauty of the product. The articles are usually made by hand plaiting.
In Bihar, the sikki grass has special ritualistic significance. Boxes are made from it for several ceremonies. A special container called ‘pauti,’ made from sikki grass, is gifted to the bride by her parents on her wedding day.
