Sibuta Lung

Sibuta Lung is a stone memorial, situated at Tachhip, a village about 20 km from Aizawl, in Mizoram. This memorial, erected around 300 years ago, is a depiction of jilted love and lust for revenge. It is named after Sibuta - a Palian chief. Sibuta was an orphan and was fostered by a hill chief. Later, he killed his adoptive father and became the hill chief. But he failed in his love and was cheated by a girl. Sibuta went mad for revenge and as a result, he crushed a young and beautiful girl named Darlai in a big pit dug to erect a memorial for himself. Then he dragged a huge rock, awash with the blood of three people who were sacrificed, from the bed of the Tlawng River, about 10 km away. The stone was erected placing Darlai alive on the pit below the stone.
