Shri Thondaradippodi Alwar, one of the twelve
Alwars, was born in Thirumandangudi,
Tamil Nadu. He is considered as the incarnation of Vaijayanthi (ornament) of
Lord Vishnu.
He took the name 'Thondaradippodi Alwar', which means 'dust at the feet of the devotees of the Lord'. Being an ardent devotee of the Lord, he served Lord Ranganatha Swamy (Vishnu) by making flower garlands, and maintaining a flower garden on the banks of Cauvery.
Both his works, Thiruppalli Yezhucchi and Thirumaalai are on Lord Ranganatha. Thiruppalli Yezhucchi is meant to wake up the Lord as in Suprabhatham and Thirumaalai consists of 45 verses.
