Shri Swami Brahmananda Saraswati, who was the Shankaracharya of Jyotir Mutt, was born on 20th December,1868 in village Gana near
Ayodhya. His original name was Rajaram Mishra. He is the guru of the now world famous
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, founder of the
Transcendental Meditation movement. He took
sanyas at the age of 34. Bramhananda Saraswati was made the Shankaracharya of Jyotir mutt, Badrikashram in the
Himalayas and given the title of Jagatguru Maharaj.
